FORFAR Athletic drew a blank in their first pre-season friendly at home to Buckie Thistle on Saturday afternoon.
Indeed, but for some splendid work by new signing Ally Brown in goal, the Loons could well have lost out to their Highland League opposition.

Ex-Hibs and Stenhousemuir custodian Brown came off best on a one-on-one situation and then saved a David McRae spot-kick as Buckie enjoyed the best of the first-half openings.

Manager Dick Campbell rang the changes in the second period and Forfar began to find their rhythm in the closing half hour.

But they could not find a way past a resolute Buckie rearguard and the game ended in a no-scoring draw.

Campbell wasn't too despondent, explaining that the task, after a poor last season, was to instill a bit of confidence in the team.

And, he promised at least four more new signings ahead of the new campaign, explaining that some of the new faces could be in ahead of the forthcoming home friendly tests against Brechin City on Tuesday evening and a Hibernian eleven on Thursday evening.

In addition to securing the services of goalkeeper Brown, Campbell has also brought in midfield player Steve Manson, who has played for Cowdenbeath and Sligo Rovers.

On the down side, goalkeeper Sandy Wood will be months on the sidelines with a cruciate ligament injury which means the search is now on for another keeper.
