FORFAR Farmington Ladies goalkeeper Fiona McNicoll was triumphant at the Scottish Women's Football awards dinner at Hampden Park earlier this month as she picked up the Scottish Sun SWF Player's Player of the Year Award, beating off tough competition from the Glasgow City duo Rachel Corsie and Kat Linder and Spartans' Diana Barry.
The selection of Fiona by the league's players as being their player of the year capped an excellent season for the Farmington custodian, having had a flawless appearance record for the season and having had a first call-up to the women's national squad.

In the other main awards, Glasgow City manager Peter Caulfield picked up the SWF coach/manager of the year award after guiding his side to a superb domestic treble, while Celtic striker Pauline Hamill won The Tennent's International Player of the Year Award.

Forfar Farmington Football Club chairman Colin Brown was among the first to offer Fiona best wishes at the awards.

"I would like to congratulate Fiona on being recognised by her fellow players throughout Scotland's Premier League, winning the Scottish Premier League's Players player of the year award for season 2008/09.

"It goes to show that you don't have to be a big club to be recognised for good work," he added.

Colin was also quick to acknowledge the contribution made by Farmington's many coaches and volunteers.

"There is so much fantastic work being done by everyone in our club - players, coaches and volunteers - and this award is just another recognition for all the good work each and every one of you put in on a weekly basis."

Ladies head coach Mark Nisbet added: "It is a great achievement to be recognised by your fellow players and hold off some very strong opposition from the other nominees.

"This award is a major high point in a season where the squad, as a whole, has progressed well and we look forward to starting again in a couple of weeks and hopefully receiving further awards in the future."
