A RECENT article in the Dispatch and Herald regarding a re-union of the Aitken family planned for Forfar in the summer has unearthed two photographs featuring a well-known member of the family.
Ian Aitken got in touch to say his family would return to Forfar after 55 years for a gathering in the Royal Hotel on the evening of Saturday, July 31.
Ian is keen to rekindle contact with old friends of the family and invited them along on the night.
Forfar was home to the Aitken family from 1942 to 1955 when they lived in Carseburn Road before moving to the Brechin Road for four years.
Ian attended the Queen Victoria boarding school in Dunblane but his sister Joan attended Forfar Academy.
The family eventually left Forfar to live in Glasgow and from there the family dispersed to different parts of the country.
Ian added: "We have many happy memories of Forfar and we are hoping to try to contact any old friends to invite them along to the Royal Hotel."
Sadly Ian's sister Mary died 15 years ago leaving Joan, the eldest, Ian, Kathleen and Bill.
Ian continued: "Most of the family are coming for the gathering and because we are staying at the Royal Hotel we will be there all day on Saturday, July 31."
Following the article one reader popped into the Dispatch with copies of the Forfar Academy school magazine for session 1948-49.
It included two photographs featuring Joan Aitken - the first showing the school captains and the second the Forfar Academy Hockey 1st XI.
Ian now lives in Leighton Buzzard with his wife and can be contacted by email at miaitken@aol.com or by telephone on 01525 385835.
