AN American is hoping to enlist the help of readers in a bid to research his family history.
Robert Guild, from Kirkland, Washington, has e-mailed the "Forfar Dispatch" and "Kirriemuir Herald" with some background information, tracing descendants back to the Forfar area.
"I am a sixth generation grandson of Abraham/Abram Guild and Janet
Barry/Barrie (married October 28, 1827 in Forfar)," he explains.
"I am directly descended through their son, William Sim Guild (married Mary Ann Ogilvy, May 16, 1852 in Forfar), their son, Alexander Guild (married Joanna Yeaman Webster December 20, 1869), their son Herbert Allan Ward Guild (married Lydia Lindberg December 20, 1915) and Douglas George Guild, my father, born December 31, 1920 and married Patsy Ruth Peters July 15, 1950.
"Alexander and Joanna, my great grandparents, died soon after my grandfather, Herbert's, birth and the surviving siblings were scattered among family members.
"I have birth, marriage and death registries plus census information through 1901. Herbert came to Canada in 1907 and that's where we lose touch with our Scottish kin.
"I have very little information from 1907 to 1946 when my father emigrated to the United States. Until just a few months ago, we had no information about our Scottish ties, except family stories.
"Barbara Murray of Melbourne Australia, direct descendant of Janet Barrie, has helped tremendously with filling in much of the family on the Guild side from about 1800 to the present - seven generations past Abraham and Janet.
"I'm looking for family members still in the Forfar area, if any. My motives are simple, fill-in generations of unknown information about our family to the present. In time, I would love to visit our homeland and family. I welcome any and all information/suggestions."
