TWO local musicians have planned a fund-raising trek with a difference from John o' Groats to Gretna over the 31 days of August.
Plans are taking shape for Callum Dewar and Gillian Maitland to give five world premiers along the way of duets for classical guitar and marimba in order to raise money for Capability Scotland.

As well as raising funds for this charity, this even
t aims to raise awareness for the young and disabled, newly disabled, and people with hidden disabilities.

Whilst on the walk, Callum and Gillian will also be holding walk in sessions to gain public opinions and suggestions on what needs to be done to make Scotland more aware and accessible. They will then be presenting this information to the Scottish Government.

Writing duets for Callum and Gillian to premier during the walk, which will be performed in John o' Groats, Inverness, Perth, Edinburgh and Gretna, are five world famous Scottish composers - Gordon McPherson, Rory Boyle, Lyell Creswell, David Horn and Edward McGuire.

The duo will also be recording the five works, and will be releasing the CD for sale worldwide in September 2010, all profit from CD sales will go directly to Capability Scotland.

In order for this event to happen, Callum and Gillian need to raise money to pay for the performance venues, recording costs, instrument transport (including roadie), PR and general expenses that will be incurred along the way.

Rather than contacting select businesses to ask for donations, the pair came up with an idea to create a Great Big Money Map which not only raises money but provides advertising for sponsors.

Space on the money map is being sold for individuals or businesses to advertise their logo, with an optional link to be included. Spaces are to be sold for £25 each and more than one space can be bought at a time. Visit the website to find out more information about the money map and to buy a space (www.moneymap.callumadngilliansgreatbigwalk.co.uk).

Buyers need not be a business, for instance an amateur musician may wish to purchase a space and provide a link to their facebook page or twitter account.

Whilst this is for a Scottish charity, Callum and Gillian are hoping this event will also help raise awareness out with Scotland and the UK, so they are selling the spaces on the map to businesses and individuals worldwide.

For further details including artist biographies, full details on the walk, a blog, and why Callum and Gillian are doing the walk, visit their websites (www.callumandgilliansgreatbigwalk.co.uk and www.facebook.com/callumandgilliansgreatbigwalk).
