Forfar Academy youngsters could easily have thought that Christmas had come early following a visit from two Nine Trades representatives.
Past Deacon Convenor of the Nine Trades of Dundee Bill McLaren and current Deacon Convenor Jim Shearer paid a surprise visit to the Angus Young Engineers on Wednesday, October 22.
As well as showing considerable interest in this after school practical skill’s developing club, the two visiting craftsmen presented the young engineers with a cheque for £600.
Local baker Bill McLaren, himself a former pupil of Forfar Academy, keeps up to date with the technical department and was impressed with the ultra modern laser cutter.
Bill also was aware that the addition of a laptop to this device would enable the pupils to go well beyond their current graphic capabilities.
A quiet word in the ear of Shearer resulted in the Nine Trades funding this very worthwhile addition to the young engineers’ toolkit.
Principal teacher and project leader Bob Baldie said, “Community engagement is a necessary and highly desirable part of our work today. The fact that our laser printer can have its own dedicated laptop is superb and gives so much more freedom of activity.”
