Who will be the dumpling champ?

AS spring approaches the first Kirrie Dumpling World Championship is not far away.

The championship is a feature of the annual spring show of Kirriemuir and District Gardening Association to be held on Saturday, April 16.

The show is not just for gardeners, it also features a flower arranging, home baking, handicrafts and a busy children’s section.

For the the first Kirrie Dumpling World Championship, entries of the drumstick primula in theirsix-inch pots are sought.

This special fund-raiser, in aid of the Kirriemuir Day Care Centre McKenzie Wing, will be a hotly contested class, with the first Dumpling World Champion Trophy up for grabs, as well as raising money for a worthy local cause.

New competitors for all the sections of the spring show are always welcome. The Best in Show last April was won by a first time exhibitor.

“There are a lot of very good gardens and, of course, gardeners in Kirriemuir and it would be great to see new exhibitors having a go,” said a show spokesperson.

“Kirrie Dumplings abound in the area so we hope to see a good number of entries.”

Spring show entries will be accepted between 6.30 pm and 8.30 pm on Friday, April 15, at the Kirriemuir Old Parish Church, with plenty of committee members on hand to help guide new exhibitors.

To pick up a copy of the show details pop into the church office or one of the local shops, such as Joshua Plumtree, McIntosh Ironmongers or The Flower Shop. Alternatively e-mail kdgashow@talktalk.net for a copy direct to your in box and then bring along your exhibits and enjoy the show.
