Pupils from Webster’s High School have been presented with their Dynamic Youth Award for organising and running their own non-alcoholic bar – The Juicy Chill Bar – at various events over the past 15 months.

The pupils were involved in all aspects of the bar including stocktaking, pricing, ordering ingredients, managing a budget, preparation for events, serving at the bar, hygiene awareness and tidying up after an event.

Creating and promoting their recipes for themed events has meant that the ‘Juicy Chill Bar’ is in constant high demand.

Favourite drinks include Rudolf’s Nose – a orange juice base with grenadine syrup, and a new creation, Polar Ice – with Curacao Syrup drizzled over ice and popping candy.

The Burn’s Supper highlight this year was the ‘Haggis, Nips & Tatties’ drink and for the Valentines disco a ‘Heart Stopping’ drink was designed with a scrumptious drinking chocolate & fresh cream base.

Presentation is another skill that the group has mastered and every drink is carefully thought out, colour co-ordinated with brollies and straws and decorated with fresh fruit in order to attract customers to buy their product.

The pupils also run training workshops where they demonstrate how to make their ‘mocktails’. They show that there are alternatives to drinking alcohol, and that with a bit of imagination, non-alcoholic ‘mocktails’ can be attractive, fun and tasty.
