Warning after more rain forecast

Drivers are being urged to take the “utmost care” on Angus roads after warnings of heavy rain across the Tayside area.

Police Scotland issued the warning after forecasts of more heavy rain today (Wednesday).

A Tayside division spokesman said: “Clearly, with heavy rainfall comes the likelihood of surface water on the roads network in Angus, Dundee and Perth and Kinross.

“There is also the possibility of localised flash flooding, particularly where thunderstorms occur in urbanised areas.

“Tayside Division advise drivers to reduce their speed and drive with the utmost care as heavy and persistent rainfall is set to continue across the region through today leading to surface water that will make driving conditions more difficult.

“Drivers should slow down approaching standing water to avoid risks of aqua planing. They should also give consideration to any pedestrians nearby.”

Anyone travelling on the region’s roads is recommended to allow plenty of time for their journey, reduce their speed and drive according to the conditions

The spokesman added: “This includes keeping a safe distance from the vehicle in front and using dipped headlights where appropriate.”
