Glamis Castle has come out top at an awards ceremony which recogngises the high quality of UK visitor attractions.

The castle was presented with the award for Best Overall Visit in the UK by Irish bus tour operator CIE Tours International after it achieved a customer satisfaction rating of more than 90 per cent from the 14,000 visitors the company brought to the UK last year.

For the past two years, Glamis has been presented with a merit award by CIE but this year the company introduced seven Best Overall categories for this year’s ceremony, which was held in the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre during VisotScotland’s Expo 2015 exhibition.

Of the 50 awards made by the company, 30 were for Scottish hotels and visitor attractions.

Brian Stack, CIE Tours International managind director, said: “Our awards are well recognised and hugely respected in Ireland and it is gratifying to see that the same has happened so quickly in the UK.

“The rise in standards in only three years in our UK providers is remarkable and it proves that people’s efforts in striving for high standards pays off.”

Presenting the awards, Charlie Smith, VisitScotland’s marketing director, congratulated the winners on their success as well as on the quality of their attractions.

He said: “It’s an honour to be presenting 30 awards to Scottish tourism businesses here at VisitScotland
expo 2015, Scotland’s biggest travel trade event. I would like to offer my congratulations to every single winner for receiving an Award of
Excellence.

“Providing a high quality of service is vitally important as we look to encourage both leisure and business visitors to come back to our country again and again. Scotland is renowned for its hospitality, we showed this as we welcomed the world in 2014, and now it’s extremely important that we maintain this high level of service as we take Scotland to the world in 2015 and beyond.”
