TWELVE members of Forfar and District U3A had an uplifting experience last week when they visited the only rotating canal boat lift in the world.
The Falkirk Wheel was completed ten years ago as part of the Millennium Project.
Boats are lifted twenty four metres from the Forth and Clyde Canal to the Union Canal.
The wheel replaces nine of the eleven locks that originally connected the two canals.
On the upper level the waterway passes through a tunnel underneath the Roman Antonine Wall.
The views are spectacular, with vistas for miles around.
The members particularly admired the elegance and efficiency of the wheel’s design.
It was a memorable experience.
