FORFAR Musical Society is hoping to build on its popular Christmas Cabaret concerts with a Summer Showstoppers in the Reid Hall in June.
Following the disappointment of having to cancel their traditional Christmas pantomime in 2011 during the society’s centenary year, members are hoping to attract past, present and future members for their new show which will run from Tuesday, June 5 to Saturday, June 9 in the Reid Hall.
Musical director Billy Muir, who was in charge of the two Christmas concerts in St Margaret’s Church last December, will again direct the Summer Showstoppers.
Society vice-president Scott McIntosh is now urging those interested to go along to an open night on Wednesday, February 8.
He said: “We are away to start rehearsals for the Summer Showstoppers and are holding an open night in the BB Hall in Queen Street on February 8. We are asking anyone who would like to be part of the show to bring along their own songs they would like to perform. It doesn’t have to be songs from the shows; it could be popular songs as the show will be a mix of music.
“We are also inviting children from primary four upwards to come along between seven and eight to take part in a singing and dancing workshop, and from 8 pm we invite anyone else interested to come along - past, present and future members will be most welcome. We’re not just looking for solo singers, but those in groups, maybe duets, and dancers.
“The show will be something similar to the two night concert we held in December, but we hope the summer show will be bigger and better. We were disappointed that we had to cancel last year’s pantomime, but Forfar Musical Society is still going strong. We are hoping we can attract more members, raise some money and hopefully, this year, there will be a pantomime in Forfar again. We hope this will be a spring-board for us.”
