Swift talk at Kirrie museum

The next event in the successful programme of free monthly talks at Kirriemuir’s Gateway to the Glens Museum will be ‘Save Our Swifts’, by Daniele Muir of Tayside Swifts group,

Daniele is a Wildlife Guide with Perthshire Wildlife and has been working to help conserve swifts for the last 10 years. In 2013 and 2014, she managed the Carse of Gowrie Swift Conservation Project, in conjunction with the Carse of Gowrie Sustainability Group and Tayside Biodiversity Partnership.

She said: “Swift numbers in Scotland have dropped by over 60 per cent, in the last 15 years or so, with the main reason being loss of nest sites. Swifts nest in gaps in stonework, behind down-pipes, or under the guttering. As old buildings are renovated or demolished, these nest sites are lost.

The talk, on Wednesday, May 27, at 7 p.m. is free but booking is recommended. Further information is available from museum staff on 01575 575479, or by e-mailing kirriegateway@angus.gov.uk
