The culmination of Forfar Gala Week was blessed with good weather on Sunday when the local community crowded the Myre for a busy afternoon programme.

It was the colourful climax of a number of events held in the town and was hailed as a success by Jeanette Gaul, chairwoman of the Forfar Fairtrade Forum which organised the day.

Drew Christie, Commonwealth Games shooting silver medallist, officially opened the Gala Day which included Zulu drumming, dancing displays, a kick boxing display and musical entertainment by Forfar bands Around 7 and The Blend and members of the local pipe band.

There was also a range of stalls and static displays including the Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club, Tayside Classic Car Club, Cairn A Mhor Winery, Guide Dogs for the Blind and Angus Threeway Fundraisers.

Mrs Gaul said: “It was really quite a success and the weather held off, which helped to bring people out.

“The community is great for these kinds of things and they come out to support them. We had one or two new stalls and a couple of new groups attending this year and they left saying they’d be back, which was great.

“Our thanks go to Mark Guild of main sponsor Guild Homes for the help he gives us to keep the group going and to Drew Christie who opened the event. I was really pleased with the turnout and that’s the highlight for me, people coming together for the event which is the important part.”
