Spot the meerkat!

SHOPPERS have a treat in store as new season Scottish potatoes and asparagus will be available at the Angus Farmers Market in the Myre Park, Forfar, this Saturday.

Asparagus is not only delicious but is packed with goodness and disease busting nutrients. It is also low in calories and cholesterol.

Local soft fruit is also available, with deliciously sweet strawberries and raspberries benefiting from the long awaited summer weather.

The market is the perfect place to stock up on barbecue food with a wide range of burgers, steaks and sausages made from the finest Scottish meat and game.

Fresh local seafood is also available cooked and uncooked, Arbroath fisheries make their own fish pies and pate.

Myreside Organics will provide the freshest of salad leaves as Antonia will hand pick and select only the best of her organic produce the night before the market.

The market provides the unique service of one-on-one conversation with your food producers.

Picnics are an enjoyable experience for everyone and the market can supply wonderful treats for the picnic basket.

Aleesandro Tato and his Italian bread stall is proving to be a regular stop at the market with foccacia, ciabatta and various sour dough loaves.

Irene Gow from Storm Cakes can fill your basket with homemade cakes and tray bakes. Irene also makes scrumptious banoffe pie and sticky toffee puddings.

Puddledub Pork has a deliciously moist picnic pork pie that is truly fantastic. It is so popular you really have to be quick off the mark.

Many of the stallholders can take orders prior to the market so they can have it ready for you to pick up.

To keep the children amused while you browse round the market stalls this month there is a “Spot the meerkat” competition.

Angus, the farmers’ meerkat, will be hiding among the produce and children can enter the fun at the market information stall.

Market customers will be entertained by the Zuglu drummers, a West African drumming group based in Angus.

The group is looking for new members both young and old and will be holding a workshop on Saturday afternoon in the Guide hall.

The Angus Farmers Market can be found in the High Street, Montrose on the first Saturday and the Myre Park, Forfar on the second Saturday of the month from 9 am to 1 pm.
