Forfar Instrumental Band has announced the appointment of Terence F Jackson as its new bandmaster.
Mr Jackson has a long and interesting history in brass bands, starting in his native Yorkshire in 1951 at the tender age of four. By the time he was 11, he had experience of various instruments in Gomersal Mills Prize Band and was the youngest ever conductor of a works band. Still only 21, he started a junior band which had, within a year, 50 players and 25 learners.
Over the years Mr Jackson has played for many Championship section Yorkshire bands and he was a member of the Yorkshire Area champion band on eight occasions as well as a member of the three-times National Championship winners. He competed in the European Open contest in Switzerland with Brighouse when that band finished as the top British entry.
If that was not enough, Terry also conducted bands and played on television shows such as the Cilla Black Show, ‘Playing the Field’ and ‘Emmerdale’. Mr Jackson retired to Scotland in 2012 and has played with Tayport, City of Discovery and Brechin City bands
He said: “For over 60 years I’ve enjoyed the pleasures of brass banding and now feel that it’s my time to put all I’ve learned back by helping others”.”
