LOCAL lad Sandy Mitchell has once again been racing with the Kent-based Project One racing team.

Sandy was able to race and keep in the title hunt all the way to the last final which came down to the wire on Sunday, October 14, at Shenington Race Circuit Banbury for the British Super One Honda Cadet Championship finishing runner-up by only two points.

After a difficult qualifier and two challenging heats Sandy went into final two of the last round tied on points for the title with Luke Wooder. Sandy started from P4 on the grid with Luke on pole. After leading the race on lap two, Sandy changed positions on numerous occasions as the leading kart ran a defensive race resulting in a long train of karts.

Sandy eventually finished sixth with Luke Wooder third. This meant Luke won the title with Sandy being runner up.

Earlier this year Sandy also won the British Open Championship and enjoyed running this season with the coveted ‘O’ Plate on his kart.

Sandy is now looking forward to the challenge of stepping up to the next class which is Minimax, a larger and much faster kart.

He is can’t wait to start winter testing with his new team ‘RL Racing Dept’ and to hit the ground running when The British Super One series kicks off again next year.

During the past year Sandy has had nine podium finishes out of 12, qualified on pole twice, recorded numerous fastest laps, had three final wins and had the highest points overall before drop scores.
