GARIOCH RFC held the annual Meldrum Inter schools Tag Rugby Festival last Friday (March 18) with 300 children attending from 11 local primary schools. All the schools participating in the Meldrum Schools Network received eight weeks of coaching from Garioch RFC community coaches, which the club supply free of charge to all the schools in the Garioch area.

The refereeing staff saw some great rugby participation which was conducted within the spirit and passion of the game. Rothienorman, Tarves and Methlick schools were awarded prizes for their teamwork, fair play and sportsmanship.

The club aims to increase grass roots rugby and the prestige of rugby union in Aberdeenshire.

Rugby Development Officer Chris Lawson said: “These festivals are a fun way of getting children involved in a sport renowned for its physical demands and social environment. We look forward to seeing people of all ages down at the club at Kelland’s Park, Inverurie.
