Forfar Rotary Club’s annual Christmas programme has reached a successful conclusion after almost a month of activity.
It began with the switching on of the town’s Christmas lights at the end of November, at which Santa made his first appearance to collect the hundreds of letters handed to him and his helpers. All letters received have been replied to with a few exceptions where reply details were missing or not legible.
He then helped with the club’s annual door-to-door collections, assisted by members of 11 local organisations. These will each receive contributions to their funds in January when they will also be invited to club meetings.
Santa’s last appearance was last weekend, by kind permission of both Asda and Tesco, who also supported the campaign by providing all the oranges and sweets used during the past month.
A club spokesman said: “None of this would have been possible without someone in charge and we at Forfar Rotary are lucky to have Sandy Ogilvie who masterminded the whole programme and attended every night along with Alan White who was the towmaster with the sleigh. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to the wonderful Forfarians for their continued support and good wishes for our future efforts.”
