Revisions to bus services in the Forfar-Kirrie area

FOLLOWING a review of tendered bus services and the award of local bus service contracts at the full meeting of Angus Council in February, there will be changes to many local bus services in and around Forfar and Kirriemuir, effective from Monday, May 30.

New editions of the timetables for these services will be available from Thursday, May 19 in local libraries, ACCESS offices, tourist information points and online at

The changes are as follows:-

Service 20: Dundee – Forfar – Kirriemuir (Stagecoach Strathtay):

The 6 am Dundee to Kirriemuir Monday to Friday journey will be revised to start from Forfar at 6.37 am;

The 7.25 am Dundee to Kirriemuir Monday to Friday journey will run five minutes earlier, with the 8.20 am journey from Kirriemuir retimed to depart five minutes earlier.

Additional time has also been added to this journey between Kirriemuir and Forfar to help improve reliability;

The 7.55 pm, 8.55 pm & 9.55 pm Forfar to Dundee Monday to Saturday journeys, and the 8.30 pm, 9.30 pm & 10.30 pm Dundee to Forfar Monday to Saturday journeys will be withdrawn.

Services 22/22D: Dundee – Glamis – Kirriemuir (Stagecoach Strathtay):

The 5.35 pm Monday to Friday) & 5.50 pm Saturday Dundee to Kirriemuir via Glamis journeys will be retimed to depart at 5.45 pm.

Services 23, 23A, 23B, 23C, 24, 26, 114 & 117: Forfar Town Services (Stagecoach Strathtay, JP Minicoaches and Travel Wishart):

Travel Wishart Service 23B between Lunanhead, Westfield and Forfar Academy has been withdrawn. However, to maintain a bus link from the Westfield area to Forfar Academy, a Service 24 journey will be diverted on schooldays, calling there at 8.49 am.

There will be some other alterations to the timings of Stagecoach Strathtay Services 23 and 24, particularly during the morning peak and mid afternoon periods.

JP Minicoaches will operate additional Service 23 and 24 journeys during the late morning and early afternoon on Mondays to Fridays;

There will be no changes to the Forfar – Lunanhead other than the withdrawal of the Travel Wishart journey referred to above.

However, all journeys serving Graham Crescent and Orchardbank roundabout will be renumbered 23C. Graham Crescent will benefit from an earlier bus at 9.18 am;

Stagecoach Strathtay Service 23C journeys to and from the Citylink/Megabus stop will be withdrawn though the early morning journeys to and from Orchardbank Industrial Estate are retained.

Other local bus services will continue to provide journeys to and from many Citylink journeys calling at Orchardbank;

Travel Wishart Service 26 between Forfar and Beech Hill is withdrawn. JP Minicoaches Service 114 will however provide a Monday to Friday morning return trip.

JP Minicoaches Service 117 will call additionally at the Murton Nature Reserve on journeys between Forfar and Foresterseat.

Services 27/27E: Arbroath – Letham – Forfar (Stagecoach Strathtay and Travel Wishart):

All Service 27E journeys operated by both Travel Wishart and Stagecoach Strathtay are withdrawn.

Kings Drive and Easterbank will be served by JP Minicoaches Service 114.

The 10.40 pm Forfar to Friockheim Service 27 journey will only run as far as Letham on Monday to Thursday evenings.

This journey will continue to serve Friockheim (with a connection for Arbroath) on Friday and Saturday evenings.

The 10.55 pm Arbroath to Friockheim and 11.12 pm Friockheim to Arbroath journeys will also only run on Fridays and Saturdays.

Service 81: Carnoustie – Monifieth – Wellbank/Monikie – Forfar (JP Minicoaches):

The 4.15 pm journey from Carnoustie to Forfar will no longer operate.

Services 115 & 116: Forfar – Friockheim – Montrose (JP Minicoaches).

Service 115 will operate on a Wednesday instead of Thursday.

Service 116 will run on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays only with minor timing changes to the timetable.

The service to Grampian View will be maintained on Tuesdays and Thursdays by extending two Service 52 journeys.

Service 118: Forfar – Noranside – Forfar Circular (JP Minicoaches):

The 2.30 pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday demand responsive journey is withdrawn.

Services 124 & 125: Forfar – Glamis – Newtyle/Kirriemuir (JP Minicoaches):

There are minor timing changes to some journeys.

Service 128 Kirriemuir – Airlie – Alyth (Stagecoach Strathtay):

This service will be operated by Fishers Tours to the existing timetable.

Service 129: Kirriemuir Town Centre – Brechin Road:

This service will be operated by Fishers Tours to the existing timetable.

Services 130 and K22: Kirriemuir – Glen Clova (Skycabs Direct and Stagecoach Strathtay):

The morning demand responsive journey operated by Skycabs Direct will only be available for pre-booking on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The afternoon demand responsive journey journey from Kirriemuir during school holidays will only operate on Monday, Wednesday and Friday if requested.
