An Angus councillor has responded to complaints from a group of mums regarding work at the playpark at the Lochside Leisure Centre.

Speaking at last month’s meeting of Forfar Community Council, councillor Glennis Middleton described the situation as an ‘unfortunate misunderstanding’.

The mums, under the banner Protect Our Parks, Save Our Swings, had hit out at the lack of warning that the playpark would close for essential work.

Councillor Middleton stated she felt a £90,000 investment in play equipment should be welcomed, and that information regarding the closure had gone up on the council website on June 12 explaining what was happening.

She said: “People should be welcoming this work, not decrying it. They should be welcoming this investment in Forfar, not taking umbrage to it. The council does its level best to inform people.

She stressed the work on the playpark had been passed by local members prior to the much publicised playpark consultation at the end of last year. It was part of the capital programme agreed around two to three years ago and was not part of the recent playpark review.
