Since the closure of the Charleston Inn the Charleston village hall is now the heart of a very active village community.
The village hall is in need of some repair and modernisation and that is something members of the community are working hard on.
Recently an application to LEADER - the Scottish rural development programme - resulted in an award of £75,000 towards the cost of rebuilding the village hall.
However, this is only about a third of the cost of the rebuild and in order to claim the award the remaining two thirds must be raised locally.
“We are applying for further funds but we are still several thousand pounds short of the cost of the rebuild,” explained a spokesperson for the group behind the project.
“Over the next few months we are planning a number of fund-raisers to try to accumulate the money required.”
The first of these fund-raisers is to take place on Saturday, May 14.
A social event will be held in Charleston village hall from 7.30 pm to 1 am. Jon Mclauchlan is providing live music, playing hits from the 1950s through to the present day.
There will be a licensed bar and raffle. Tickets for the event are £7.50 per adult (inclusive of stovies supper).
