Pupils support back pack project

As part of their ‘Sustaining our World’ learning context, primaries 5-7 at Aberlemno Primary School have been participating in the Mary’s Meals Backpack Project.

They researched into the full Mary’s Meals initiative and had a visit from a local representative of the charity, Helen Fleming, who extended their learning on the work of the charity.

A part of the work of the charity is the Back Pack project which pupils then began to organise.

This project involves collecting vital school supplies to send in backpacks to countries such as Malawi and Liberia to enable more children to go to school.

They appealed to families and to the local church at Aberlemno for support, by writing letters.

A few weeks of collecting donations resulted in a morning of organising the back pack contents and labelling them appropriately. Thanks go to all who supported the project.

Class teacher Jill Gibson said: “This project was such a valuable learning experience for our pupils.

“They realised how others can be less fortunate than them, and showed great enthusiasm in supporting those who don’t have the opportunities they have.” Pupils enthusiastically participated in every stage of the project.
