Progress on prosecution of offenders

NFU Scotland met recently with Lesley Thomson QC, the Solicitor General for Scotland, to discuss rural crime and how to progress the planned review of prosecution policy.

In response to evidence provided to the Justice Committee in February by NFU Scotland, the Solicitor General announced a review of prosecution policy relating to agricultural crime. During the meeting concerns were shared that there is a rise in crime within the rural community.

It was emphasised the full impact of agricultural crime needed to be considered by prosecutors, ensuring information and the impact on the victim and the business is presented as a matter of course to the court. This would better reflect the full impact in order for fines and compensation orders to reflect concerns.
