Kirriemuir’s 25th Anniversary relay swim date is Saturday, September 27 and already the organisers have been inundated with team entries from Angus community groups, schools and Tayside swimming clubs.
They have been heartened with the response and are hoping previous entrants will take part this year.
A spokesman said: “This year’s response from our commercial sponsors has also been especially generous in recognition of our 25 year milestone for the event - their enthusiastic support is a great encouragement for our volunteer committee. We hope this week’s vintage photograph from Splash 2002 will challenge some of the swimmers who took the plunge then to swim again in 2014. If they can survive just 25 metres at any speed - they qualify!”
Entry forms can be obtained from firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 01575 572129. Teams can be of any age mix from six years upwards and need six to eight swimmers.
Splash funds totalling around £180,000 have already helped carefully chosen charities in Scotland, West Africa, Peru, Brazil, Romania and India. Most are well known to the Splash committee and some have been supported for more than 20 years, and have been visited and assisted by volunteering doctors, specialists and committed helpers.
The Splash committee represents St Andrews, St Anthonys, St Marys and Glens and Old Parish and vital extra financial muscle is supplied by more than 30 Angus firms and by Kirriemuir Rotary Club.
