The work of local Citizens Advice bureaux has been recognised at Westminster when MP Mike Weir met with representatives who are celebrating the organisation’s 75th anniversary.

He discussed with them the work being done by the CAB throughout Scotland and congratulated the Angus CAB on the fantastic work they do throughout the county.

Mr Weir said: “The Citizens Advice bureau provides free, independent, confidential and impartial advice and their services are needed more than ever. It is worth noting that of the advice issues that have been brought to the Angus Bureau over the last year the greatest number, some 38.6 per cent, have related to benefits, tax credits and national insurance whilst the second most frequent was debt problems.

“Changes being made by the UK government in benefits and tax credits will undoubtedly exacerbate both these problems. This demonstrates not only the valuable work currently being done by the Bureaux but the continuing and increasing need for their service.”
