There was praise for the high standard of entries for the 2013 Angus Council garden awards ceremony at Kirriemuir Town Hall on Friday.
Vice-Convener of Neighbourhood Services, Councillor Jeanette Gaul said: “Once again our green fingered tenants have excelled themselves with colourful and imaginative garden displays this summer. As usual there was an outstanding level of entries for the awards and I thank every gardener who has put in a great deal of hard work to achieve success. In congratulating the well-deserved winners, I’d like to mention all our tenants who play their part in adding to the attractiveness of our towns and villages. Their pride in their gardens is to be commended.”
Among the awards prsented by Provost Helen Oswald were the following awards: Directors Special Award (most outstanding garden in Angus) - Stewart Edward Cup, Frank & Margaret Craib, 17 Winter Place, Carnoustie. Overall Winner (best 1st prize winner) - Bill Roberton Trophy, George and Isobel Meldrum, Monifieth. Jim Miller Sustainable Trophy - Lachlan Forbes, 18 Langlands Road, Forfar. Provost’s Quaich - Leslie and Williamina Cottrell, Carnoustie. Forfar: 1 – Forfar Horticultural Cup, Andrew and Charlotte Lawson, 3 Strathmore Road, Glamis; 2, Ian and Helen Guthrie, 14 Easterbank, Forfar. Kirriemuir: 1, A C Barrie Cup, Barbara Harper, 91, Knowehead, Kirriemuir; 2, George Wood, 15 South Esk Road, Tannadice. Sidlaw: 1, Sidlaw Challenge Plate - William Peggie, 3 Mattocks Road, Wellbank; 2, Eileen McKiddie, 33 Highfield Place, Birkhill.
