ANGUS Council’s education committee has recognised the good work by a number of local initiatives.
The Forfar Drugs Initiative Group, Montrose YMCA and the Community Alcohol Free Environment (Cafe) Project have been highlighted in a report to the education committee.
However, in light of their positive progress and the overall financial situation of Angus Council, funding will be cut by 3.5 per cent within the terms of the new service agreements.
In Forfar, the funding of the agreements will now total £3,162.
Service level agreements were initially put in place with each of the local projects with the Forfar Drugs Initiative’s operating from April 1, 2011, to March 31, 2012.
Explaining the findings of the year-long agreement, Neil Logue, director of education, said: “The review activity has highlighted a number of strengths in the work undertaken by the Drugs Initiative Group including young people feeling more included and confident.
“Young volunteers make effective contributions to the planning and implementation of activities within the Pitstop Youth Cafe and they are also playing an active part in the decision making process within the group - particularly in relation to service development.”
He continued: “The group has successfully delivered the outputs described in the service level agreement to provide open youth work, provide support to young people, provide appropriate personal information, support and counselling for more vulnerable young people and assist young people to access and benefit from more specialised support services.
“They also encourage groups of young people with shared interests to work together and develop activities for themselves.”
Mr Logue added: “In the light of review activity, the education service has negotiated a revised Service Level Agreement specification with the Forfar Drugs Initiative Group which reflects emerging 16+ provision and the need for improvement in key areas.”
The agreements will still focus on making sure that children and young people are confident individuals, effective contributors, successful learners and responsible citizens.
