Poetry competition launched by ANGUSalive

ANGUSalive libraries are joining in National Poetry Week celebrations, which runs from October 3 to October 7, by holding a poetry competition,

The theme of Poetry week is ‘Messages’.

Messages come in all shapes and sizes, all types and forms, from the traditional letter to a simple text. They can be funny or sad, frivolous or life-changing.

The competition aims to see how you’d say it with a poem.

There are two categories – one for under 18s and one for 18s and over living in Angus.

Poems should be between 150 and no more than 200 words. Entries must be in before 5pm on Friday, October 7. Please send them by email to marketing@angusalivescot.

The winning entry, which will be judged and will be rewarded with tickets to see Sinbad – this year’s fantastic pantomime at the Webster Memorial Theatre in Arbroath (for Saturday, December 3 for the winning U18s entry a family ticket and two tickets for the winning 18s and over entry).

Also in celebration of National Poetry Week, Scottish poet and author Kenneth Steven will be talking at Forfar (11am to 12 midday) and Arbroath libraries (2.30 to 3.30pm) on Thursday, October 6, which is National Poetry Day.

On the same day, poet and novelist Andy Manders will be giving a talk at Montrose Library at 2.30pm and there will be tea and cakes served at Monifieth Library between 10am and 11.30am.

Also on National Poetry Day, Kirriemuir Library are having poems with coffee and cakes between 11am and 12 noon and at Monifieth Library there will be a drop-in session between 10am and 11.30, where all are welcome to pick up themed postcards and enjoy a cup of tea and cake.
