Overwhelming support

The Kirriemuir community hasonce again demonstrated that, when it comes to fund-raising, they are in a league of their own.

On Saturday two fund-raisers were held in the town to help pay for treatment for five-year-old local schoolgirl Lucy Wright - and the local community turned out in their droves.

Local firefighters held a car wash at the station in the Glengate whilst staff at the Kirriemuir Dental Practice held a whole raft of activities from early morning through to the evening. Aisling Hanly of the practice was completely overwhelmed by the level of support, which raised over £5,000 for Lucy’s treatment for stage four neuroblastoma.

She said: “We’d hoped to raise around £2,000 but have raised over £5,000 for Lucy which was way beyond our expectations.

“Everyone was so generous. We had car boot sale, tombola, raffle, cake and candy, silent auction and then wine and cheese evening. The luxury weekend break at Glen Clova raised £450 and we had donations for the labs we work with and from Guild Homes. Lucy came along with her mum and we had a special cake for her to take away.”
