MATURE student George Rennie is the latest recipient of the Norman Fraser Design Trust Award.

George, 35, who is originally from Kirriemuir and now living in Edzell has proven himself to be an outstanding student and also receives the award for ‘Best HNC Engineering Systems Student’.

After leaving school George worked as a bus driver in Kirriemuir for twelve years, but when he faced the threat of redundancy decided to go to college to study introduction to engineering.

George continued his studies at Angus College for a further four years during which time he proved himself as a hardworking and enthusiastic student with a passion for engineering.

George’s other passion is music, in particular playing the accordion. He is now combining two interests in a new project designing and building electronic systems for accordions.

George has identified the need for something new in this niche market and hopes to invest the prize money from the design trust award into this enterprising project.

John Burt, Angus College Principal, said: “George is an excellent example of lifelong learning and deserving recipient of the Norman Fraser Design Trust award. It is great to see that he is combining his passion for music and engineering to create something new.

“We wish him all the best on this exciting venture.”
