Online tributes to Angus Provost

There has been an outpouring of heartfelt tributes on social media following the announcement of the death of Angus Provost Helen Oswald today (Thursday).

The Carnoustie councillor of 17 years standing and Provost of Angus since 2012 passed away this morning after a battle against cancer.

Tributes from all quarters were paid to the Provost highlighting her dedication, work ethic and personable nature.

A number of messages were posted on Facebook, including:

Angus North MSP Mairi Evans said: “Just heard the news about Helen, absolutely heartbreaking and thoughts are with her family at this awful time.

“I had the privilege of working alongside Helen for the past nine years, the first few years when we were in opposition and she was our group leader then from 2012 when she became Provost. She was absolutely dedicated to that role. Helen was always one of the most passionate, hardworking and committed councillors and dedicated to serving the people of Carnoustie. This is such a sad, sad loss.”

Sandra Michie posted: “A very courageous lady who will be sadly missed. Thoughts are with Ed and family x”

Gordon Rogers added: “A determined person when it came to helping people. Sorry Ed, she will be sadly missed, none more than by you.”

Condolences were also extended to the family of Helen Oswald by the Angus Scottish Conservative and Unionist Association.
