Along with 300 other children, pupils from Northmuir Primary enjoyed a day to remember at the Tesco Bank Football Challenge.

As well as enjoying a coaching session on the hallowed Hampden Park turf, the children took part in the Hampden Experience tour and made the most of a mini funfair.

The Tesco Bank Football Challenge is a four-year community programme run in partnership with the Scottish FA.

Aimed to introduce football to Primary 2 and 3 pupils across Scotland to help them get engaged in a healthy and active lifestyle.

Jim Fleeting, Scottish FA head of football development, said: “We were delighted to welcome the children from Northmuir Primary School.

“The third year of the challenge has once again been a great success.

“In November we hit the 50,000 mark for children engaged in the programme and that number continues to grow.”

Scotland assistant manager Mark McGhee, Celtic striker Tony Watt and Celtic Women’s Rhona Jones were on hand to help out.

Mark McGhee said: “It was fantastic to be invited to the challenge day at Hampden.

“It is Scotland’s national stadium and it is packed with memories.

“Hopefully for these children they will add some of their own that they’ll remember for a long time to come.

“If that inspires them to play and enjoy football then it is worth it.

“I hope the children from Northmuir had a wonderful day.”
