No smooth start for Fiona and Jack

LOCAL couple Fiona Young, 44 and Jack Davies, 64, of Glamis did not get off to the smoothest of starts for their charity bike ride from Land’s End to John O’ Groats.

The couple, who are cycling in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, found out just days before they were due to start that the train company they were travelling with had forgotten to book space on the train for their bikes.

Despite repeated calls and promises for someone to get back to them, which never happened, nothing could be done as they two bike spaces for all available trains were taken and booked by someone else.

The problem was solved with one quick call to Enterprise Rent-a-Car in Dundee and the company provided a hire van with collection in Dundee and drop off in Penzance.

Fiona and Jack were in a state of panic at this late stage thinking that the trip might have to be called off through no fault of thier own and they would like to thank Enterprise for saving them.

They started their adventure on Friday as planned and started cycling from Land’s End on Saturday morning.

You can still sponsor Jack and Fiona by visiting their online fundraising page at You can pay by credit or debit card and the money will go directly to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Where supporters are ULK taxpayers, the charity will automatically receive extra in Gift Aid which makes Justgiving the most efficient way of sponsoring them.
