The AGM was held recently and a new committee elected. Nine trophies were presented for the institute competitions and for the Federation show.

Following this, members shared memories and family recollections of events which happened during the Second World War. People, events and situations were discussed. The competition was a dish made using a recipe published during the war, making good use of ingredients available. After it was judged everybody tasted the food and enjoyed it very much.

The competition winners were: 1 Chris Horrocks, 2 Marjorie Lumsden, 3 Linda Wells, 4 Charlotte Brown.

The Flower of the month competition; 1 Chris Horrocks, 2 Linda wells, 3= Anne Morrall, Pat Paterson, Charlotte Brown, Beatrice Keay.

The meeting ended with everybody singing some choruses lead by Pat Paterson.


President Gail Cable opened the meeting paying tribute to Eleanor Duncan who will be greatly missed by members.

The meeting continued with branch business, ending with the presentation of trophies: Jubilee Trophy for most points (29) Joan Brown; Elizabeth R Mitchell Trophy for runner-up (23) Irene Mackie, third (22) - Elma Dickens; the McLaren Millennium Salver for most points in the federation show (10) Elma Dickens.

Elma also won the Housewife and Handicraft Trophy at the H&H Guild, which was a first ever for Northmuir Rural.

Since the evening’s speaker was unable to attend, the meeting finished with a quiz compiled by Krysia Bandeen.
