THE WORK of local hairdresser and salon owner Jillian Hannam is set for the world stage in New York next month.
Working alongside Edinburgh-based designer Irene Wentsworth, Jillian has styled the hair for a new collection to be showcased at ‘Dressed to Kilt 2012’ in New York on April 2.
After a successful collaboration last year, Irene asked Jillian if she would style her models hair for the 2012 preview pictures which she did in February.
Jillian said: “I feel very proud to be able to be a part in this patriotic event and combine by creative ability with my Scottish background.
“I felt a great honour to be invited to take part in the photo shoot in February as my work will be seen in New York.
“The industry that we work in is very satisfying and creative - it just gives me a buzz.”
Jillian and Irene first collaborated last year when Jillian used some of Irene’s designs for a shoot that was part of a Level Three Hairdressing SVQ unit at Dundee College.
“As a team Jillian and her staff chose the theme of ‘Tweeds and Tartans’ taking into consideration current trends alongside traditional aspects of Scottish heritage and culture.
Jillian explained further: “As a salon owner I find it very important that my staff have good education with good knowledge and understanding of the industry.
“This is why they are doing further SVQ’s through work based modules and one of these modules involved a photo shoot.”
It was from this shoot that Jillian entered two pictures into the National Hairdresser Federation Scottish Open Championships where she was delighted to win a silver and a bronze medal.
