Life on the homefront during the First World War will be recounted in a new play to be performed in Kirriemuir next month.

The Kirriemuir Kist Group has teamed up with the Kirriemuir Heritage Trust to produce the play which commemorates events particularly to do with relationships within the town, local recruitment and fund-raising during the war.

Written by local writers Jan Natanson, Mary McIntosh and Sandra Affleck, ‘Soldiering On’ is based on what would have happened at the time and has been supported with a £500 grant from The Joseph Alexander Trust.

The play will be performed in and around the St Mary’s Episcopal Church in Kirrie between June 9 and June 13 at 7.30pm and will incorporate two distinct styles - the first will concentrate on the relationships within the community and the second half will be a fund-raising concert by a cast consisting mainly of local

school children.

Tickets are available from Joshua Plumtree, Kirriemuir at £8 for adults and £6 for concessions. Anyone wishing further information about the project should contact Jim Walker on 07880 255431.
