Angus Citizens Advice Bureau (SCIO) has been successful recently in securing funding to provide a home visiting advice service to residents in Angus.

Thanks to funding from the Angus Health and Social Care Partnership the Warm & Well Angus scheme is now up and running, visiting the elderly and/or disabled in Angus who struggle to access any of our 3 offices owing to health or transport difficulties.

Kathy Anderson, Joint Head of Service, said: “We are delighted to be able to extend our general advice service to those who have previously been unable to come into our offices.”

In addition to general advice, Warm & Well Angus will address fuel poverty by providing specialist advice on fuel related matters, such as bills or meter readings, and income maximisation checks, thus improving peoples’ health by increasing both the warmth in their homes and their disposable income. Warm and Well Angus will also link with other organisations to access schemes for improving energy efficiency of homes.

Kathy continued: “The provision of this holistic advice service to elderly and disabled people will have an impact on their health, their wellbeing, ability to retain independence and achieving quality of life. We will continue to work with partner agencies for a joined up service which will make it possible for elderly and disabled people to access practical and social support available at a local level, this will have the additional benefit for a client in reducing reliance on NHS services as health conditions can be exacerbated by cold living conditions, low income and worry.”

The home visiting service will be carried out by fully trained volunteer advisers and specialist fuel poverty workers. To make this as efficient and effective as possible, the Citizens Advice Bureau is now recruiting volunteers to join their advice teams in the Montrose, Forfar and Arbroath areas. They offer comprehensive training, support and travel expenses. In return, they would like you to commit to one day a week and have access to a car.
