New equipment sees much improvement

A massive investment in the fitness suite at Lochside Leisure Centre has seen the facility take a huge leap forward with new technology.

Around £65,000 has been spent on renewing the equipment in the ‘CV area’ and the weights area in the upstairs fitness rooms.

And the new equipment has brought Forfar in line with all-modern facilities at Dundee University.

Mark Nisbet, Lochside Leisure Centre manager, said: “We have reinvested the money we make back into our facilities to bring the gym right up to date.

“The feedback has been really positive so far so hopefully we can encourage more people to come down to use the equipment.”

He added: “Each machine has a workout of the day; for example you could do a 5k or pick a fat burning programme. So you get a different workout every day.”

As the equipment is bang up to date it can be personalised to each individual user with integration between the machines and downloadable fitness apps from Apple and Android.

For the future there are also plans to install internet capabilities to each machine so in addition to the full range of TV channels users will be able to check their e-mails while at the gym.

Mark said: “It’s all about maximising your time. A lot of people say they just don’t have time to get to the gym so this will give them a chance to multi-task while they are here.”

Staff member Helen Torrie is delighted with the new equipment. She said: “I love the new machines. There is a variety of programmes on each that you can use.

“You can make it as simple or as complicated as you like with the new machines - it just depends what you want to get out of it.”

Gym-user Neil Ironside added: “I use the gym all the time and I see a vast improvement with the new machines.

“With the new programmes available you can do something different each day.”
