NHS Tayside has reappointed Sandy Watson as chairman for a further four years.
He began his tenure on December 1.
Mr Watson said: “I came to the Health Service after a career in education and local government and found myself on a very steep learning curve.
“I can honestly say that I have enjoyed the past four years immensely, and have learned a great deal from everyone here in NHS Tayside.
“I have been lucky enough to meet staff from all levels in the organisation and have seen at first hand the contribution every member of staff makes to the smooth running of all our health services here.
“I have always been impressed by the commitment and dedication staff show and, on many occasions, I have been humbled by how staff keep going that extra mile to deliver the best possible services for patients young and old.
“I know our staff really are our greatest asset and I would like to thank them wholeheartedly for their efforts.
“I have also been fortunate in having a dedicated group of executives and non-executives on the Board, each bringing different talents skills and experience to the boardroom table, and I would like to take this opportunity of thanking them publicly for all of their efforts and support over the past four years.
“There have been many highlights since I took up the post of chairman and we have had many achievements and success stories as a Board.
“These include: our attention to quality and improvement through the Quality Strategy and our Steps to Better Healthcare programme; the new emphasis and vigour we have around community engagement; our work with young people in recognising their importance in shaping the NHS of the future; and our determination and commitment to get it right for older people, both in our hospitals and in the community.
“The NHS in Tayside has come a long way in four years, not least in our continuing reduction in waiting times meaning more people are being seen quicker and closer to where they live and also in our reducing rates of Healthcare Associated Infection.
“I am proud of what we have achieved together and I look forward to continuing to contribute to making real differences to the lives of families across Tayside over the next four years.”
