Members encouraged to take part in group’s future

The more than 800,000 members of The Co-operative Group across Scotland are being encouraged to update their personal membership details so that they can play their full part in a new era for the group.

As part of the major Governance reforms agreed at a Special General Meeting last month, the Group will move to the concept of “one member one vote” for its Individual members following the registration of the new rulebook.

This move will enable the Co-operative Group’s members to have a direct say on how The Co-operative Group is run and help shape its future.

The sees this more direct member engagement as a vital ingredient in strengthening its local community links, and delivering the Group’s purpose of “championing a better way of doing business for you and your community”.

Ursula Lidbetter, chairwoman of the Co-operative Group, said: “We are now in a position where we can move forwards by reconnecting with our existing members, whilst at the same time attracting the next generation of Co-op members.

“Ensuring that we remain relevant and co-operatively distinct will be fundamental to our long-term success and will allow our purpose to shine through in the communities we serve.”.

Members can simply update their details by signing in online at or by calling 0800 023 4708.
