New Forfar restaurant, Marston’s Dunnichen Stone, has been announced as ‘Sports Zone’ sponsor of next year’s Angus Rotary Marafun.

Forfar Rotary’s seventh marathon distance team event to be held on Sunday, May 25, has already been well publicised and most people are aware of the under 15s ‘Mini Mile’ race to be run over a short circuit on Forfar’s main street prior to the main event.

However, as the new kids on the block the Marston’s team at the Dunnichen Stone are busy working on a new addition of a sports zone to be staged around The Myre.

The Dunnichen Stone, Marston’s brand new pub and restaurant has just opened its doors at the Orchardbank Business Park Forfar.

Bruce Sheridan, newly appointed manager of the Dunnichen Stone said: “We are working with Forfar Rotary Club to make next year’s event a major fun day out for the whole community.

“Given our ethos of supporting local communities we are delighted to promote Forfar and Angus and equally excited about supporting a new addition to the Angus Rotary Marafun 2014.

“I feel certain this will give local sports clubs and associations the opportunity to get involved by promoting their various activities and letting parents and youngsters alike see what they do.

He added: “The Marston’s team here at the Dunnichen Stone are also delighted to be supporting Forfar Rotary’s chosen charity.

“Between now and next May our restaurant team will be doing everything they can to raise funds and all the proceeds will be donated to Ninewell’s Cancer Campaign. We will also be helping Forfar Rotary to staff the event next May and we will also have teams running in the main Marafun.

“We want to see as many sports organisations as possible come along to show off what they do as well as running to raise money or their own club or organisation.”

Forfar Rotary Club President Scott Ballantyne welcomed the sponsorship decision and said: “Marston’s decision to support Marafun next year is tremendous.

“As well as making a substantial financial donation to help us cover the costs of staging Marafun, the team at Dunnichen Stone are doing everything possible to encourage team entries and have agreed to promote the event to the hundreds of party goers over the lead up to the Christmas and New Year festivities.”

Dave Valentine, convener of the Angus Rotary Marafun 2014 added: “The community focus of Marston’s through their financial and other support for Marafun is a real encouragement to everyone concerned.

“It’s also great to know they have pledged their team sponsorship and fund-raising towards our main charity and I feel sure our plans for the Sports Zone will be an added attraction to the event next May.”

Over the years Forfar Rotary Club has raised funds and contributed to many charities both locally and internationally.
