Marking 20 years of town twinning

PLANS are well in place for rekindling the “auld alliance” between Scotland and France this summer to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the town’s twinning.

The Forfar Chabanais Twinning Association has just received the dates for the French visit to Forfar this summer. As it is the 20th anniversary of the Twinning Association, members are delighted to be receiving a party of about 35 visitors from the Chabanais area.

They hope to be in Forfar from Saturday, July 28 until August 3.

To mark the 20th anniversary, they hope to have some very special visits for their guests.

Among the trips which have already been organised is a visit to the annual Edinburgh Military Tattoo at Edinburgh Castle, with the tickets already purchased.

The Association is also busy organising a number of fund-raising events to ensure the 20th anniversary is one to remember.

Fund-raising will be very important this year to cover all the proposed events.

They have organised a coffee morning which will be held in the Guide Hall, Forfar on Saturday, March 24 and also planned is a wine tasting event in May.

If anyone would like to find out more about the Twinning Association or become a member of the 100 Club, they should contact President Alice McLeod at or the treasurer June Coull at

The Association is also hoping to hear from past members who may want to take part in the anniversary celebration with their French counterparts.

It is hoped past members will want to re-join for this special year.

Association members are also hoping to contact hundreds of former Forfar Academy pupils who have hosted or visited Chabanais over the years.

There are hundreds of former Forfar Academy pupils who have either hosted or visited Chabanais. Members hope some of them will choose to be involved once more and they are asked to contact Alice or June.
