The Forfar Rotary Club Marafun 2012 has been given a welcome boost with local business Guild Homes once again giving a commitment to be major sponsors of the event.
This was looked upon by the organising committee as vital to the success of Marafun 2012, scheduled for Sunday, May 27.
This, however, is only the first step in actively securing further sponsorship and Forfar Rotary Club is appealing to others in the business world to commit to making Marafun 2012 a bigger and better event for participants and spectators alike.
Any firms or individuals who would like to become involved should contact Marafun convener Tim Hale on 01307 461884 or by making contact through the website www.forfarrotary.org.uk where more event details will emerge over the next few months.
Already the continental market, which was a welcome addition to the last Marafun, has been booked and the whole entertainment programme will be looked at to provide a carnival atmosphere thereby encouraging runners and their supporters.
“The winners of 2010 intimated they would try to return with the same team to defend their title, so we will be interested to see if they can raise the same five team members and beat all newcomers and perhaps beat their own record time,” explained a Rotary spokesperson.
“The whole set up is to be refreshed and the Marafun committee members are looking at introducing new or alternative means of how the teams entering the event can donate their sponsorship but this is at an early stage and nothing has yet been decided.
“The committee is beginning to take on board the comments from past Marafuns and the feed-back from participants, etc.
“Although the main format will be the running of the Marafun it may also incorporate other races to run alongside it, with events aimed at perhaps toddlers, juniors and seniors, etc.
“Whatever the final format is, it is a certainty that Marafun 2012 on Sunday, May 27 will be as big a day in the Forfar events diary and one that the Rotary Club will try and surpass given the financial assistance once again started by Guild Homes to whom the Forfar Rotary is most grateful.
“President Mike Cumming has every faith in the organising committee and the ultimate generosity of the competitors and spectators alike.”
