Main sponsor found for annual gala week

SPONSORSHIP for the Forfar Gala Week 2011 has been secured.

At a recent meeting staged to focus on the future of the summer event it was revealed that a committee is to be formed to take plans forward and that Mark Guild has agreed to be the main sponsor.

The meeting was called by Forfar and Area Patrnership, in a bid to attract additional financial and voluntary support, to build on the success of last year’s event.

The local community planning team suggested that additional voluntary support and resources could be available if the gala week committee worked with the community conference steering group to jointly arrange part of the gala day itself.

The partnership agreed that it would be sensible to meet jointly to discuss options before making any firm agreement.

A number of additional suggestions for fund-raising and other sources of support came forward and these will be pursued.

In addition to this, a number of people agreed to become involved in the committee, which will meet on Monday, February 14 at 5.30 pm in the East and Old Parish Church hall, Forfar.

Anyone with an interest in the gala week, or becoming involved in helping out is asked to pop along.

Thereafter, the partnership dealt with a number of other items, including updates on the successful formation of a Fairtrade Initiative in Forfar and the recent youth consultation exercise, which has identified a number of potential initiatives to take forward for youth provision in the town.

With Tartan Week coming up in early April, the partnership was able to confirm that the annual shop window competition and entertainment from the Forfar and District Pipe Band had been arranged.

In addition to this, a proposal to jointly organise a Highland Dancing Competition had been received.

After some discussion over costs, timescales and volunteering, the partnership agreed to organise the event in conjunction with Forfar Highland Dancing Association on April 9 in the Reid Hall, Forfar.

The Forfar and Area Partnership exists to work on projects and events which improve the quality of life of the people of Forfar and surrounding area. Involvement and participation is welcomed from all, either individually or as a representative of another group in Forfar.
