A Forfar woman is starting her retirement in spectacular fashion after scooping £1 million in the Euromillions Millionaire Raffle.
Janette Robertson (65) became one of 100 UK millionaires after landing the raffle jackpot in July 26’s draw.
Not surprisingly, Janette has now retired from Hampton’s Newsagent, where she has worked for the last 18 years, along with her engineer husband Dennis. The couple had intended to retire later in the year but the windfall has meant they can put their feet up earlier than anticipated.
Coincidentally, she bought the winning ticket from Hampton’s as she has done every Friday. She discovered her good fortune when she arrived for work on Saturday morning.
More used to paying out winnings, when Janette discovered that it was her turn she was in utter disbelief.
She said: “My boss Ian had printed all the winning raffle lines off so I checked my ticket against them. When I saw that my number matched I read it a few times to make sure then called Ian through. I made him read it out to me twice and it was only when he checked it on the machine and it confirmed I was a winner that I really started to believe it.”
Janette’s first purchase was a shiny new Mini but she has also shared her winnings with her family and booked a dream holiday to Florida with her children and three grandchildren, including a trip to Disney World. She said the win has given her the independence to enjoy retirement but she has also vowed to play on.
She said: “I still buy my tickets every week although when I go to the shop to put them on, they joke that they’re not going to put them through as I’ve already won!”
For every Euromillions line played, UK players automatically receive a Euromillions Millionaire Raffle selection. If the combination of three letters and six numbers at the bottom of the ticket matches the one drawn then the holder wins £1 million.
