THE FORFAR and Area Partnership Gala Week kicks off this Sunday (June 19) and the organisers have put together a fun-packed programme with something for everyone to enjoy (writes Sarah McLean).
A wide variety of events and competitions have been organised for the entire week and a full programme for the centre ring has also been pulled together.
The week starts with Music at the Myre where local bands The Trade, The White Light and Sonnet 65 will entertain the crowds from 1pm to 4.30pm.
There will also be Kookaburras Burgers and a refreshment tent for those who wish to watch the ‘It’s a Knock-Out’ competition. Teams are still needed to take part in the competiton from 2pm with an entry fee of £10. Contact Susan at Kookaburras on 01307 818005 for more details.
Also on June 19, Lochside Country Park will be hosting a ‘June in the Meadow’ event from 1pm to 3pm - drop by and take a look at the plants and animals living in the meadow at the west end of Forfar Loch.
In the evening, the East and Old will hold a church service to celebrate Forfar and its landmarks.
Each day, from Monday, June 20 to Sunday, June 26 St John’s Church will hold recitals from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. There will be a Choral Evensong on Sunday, June 26 starting from 6pm.
On June 24 the Plough Inn will host a ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition with doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start, pay £2.50 at the door.
On June 25 a charity 5k fun run around Forfar Loch will raise money for Scoliosis and the Forfar and Area Partnership. Entry costs £5 and there will be medals for all runners.

If that sounds far too strenuous the Forfar Rotary Club will be holding a car boot sale at the Myre Green from 9am to 5pm, £10 per car. There will also be a classic cars display there from 12.30pm to 4pm. Alongside the boot sale and the car show the Myre will also host a Dog Show on June 25 with registration from 1pm and judging from 2pm.
On both June 19 and 26 Mike Robertson and his Subaru Rally Car will be at the Myre.
A range of competitions will be running throughout the week including a photography contest which is available from Forfar Library and sponsored by the Forfar Accordion and Fiddle Club.

On Gala Day itself teams are needed for the Tug-of-war just turn up on the day to register.
There will be lots to see and do on Gala Day including exhibitions and performances by the Forfar and District Pipe Band, George Bertie’s Jan-Shi Black Belt Academy, Liz Low Highland Dancing, Forfar School of Taekwon-do, Belly Dancing and the Tayside Fire and Rescue Service.
What’s more there will be a whole host of stalls to keep everyone entertained.
