Looking forward to Cortachy games

Cortachy Castle has been the venue for the games since the 1880s.
Cortachy Castle has been the venue for the games since the 1880s.

Cortachy Castle and its grounds will once again form the beautiful backdrop to the area’s annual highland games and flower show, which this year will be held on Sunday, August 16.

The games offer a fun day out for all with, from 1pm many displays and activities including children’s races, fancy dress competitions, flower and handy crafts in the industrial shows and competitions, traditional heavy events, tug of war, highland dancing, a piping competition, and photographic competition.

Also not to be missed is the dog show and dog race.

The climax is the famous duck race down the River South Esk, and the games close with an auction of much of the produce exhibited in the main marquee.

There will also be a variety of crafts and stall-holders, including face painting and balloon modelling. A few craft places are still available with a charge of £10 and anyone interested can find out more from Secretary, Jane McEwen on 01307 466295 or by e-mailing jane.mcewen@icloud.com.
