A young Kirriemuir actor has secured a place at the prestigious Guildford Drama School in London as he continues to follow his dreams.

Daniel Douglas (21) is well-known in his home town for his various productions over the years.

He loves all aspects singing, dancing and acting and has wanted to follow this dream since he was 11 years old.

The former pupil at Webster’s High School was involved in local groups including the Kirrie Panto and Musical Society, and has worked with the Thomson Leng Youth groups in Dundee. He has also directed and choreographed his own shows in Kirrie Town Hall.

He attended Adam Smiths College in Kirkcaldy where he gained his HND in Musical Theatre. He then moved to London last year, attended Bucks University in Amersham and has just graduated with an honours with a degree in musical Theatre.

His proud mum Tracy said: “He has now secured himself a place at Guildford Drama School to do his Masters in Musical Theatre. This is the number one drama school in the country with a one hundred per cent agent rate. There were over 2,500 applicants with only 24 places so he is absolutely over the moon. After this year he will have completed a Masters in four years, where it normally takes five. Family and friends are currently working hard to help him raise £16,000 tuition fees and a further £5,000 to cover rent for the year. Although he will work part time, he is restricted as he must attend University six days a week, Monday to Saturday, 8.30 a.m. until 6.30 p.m. There seems to be very little funding available to students above honours level so he must find the money himself. He has set up a donation page and any small donation is gratefully received and he will not forget

those who help him.”

Daniel will be home for a few days in July, and will be involved with the Ogilvy Bar staff and customers who are holding a fun afternoon to help raise funds on Saturday, July 27. Visit www.gofundme.com/danielsdramaschoolfund
