‘Your Forfar’ vision to be discussed
IN JANUARY this year, Angus Council’s Local Community Planning Team, working with Forfar Community Council and the Forfar and Area Partnership, organised an event called ‘Your Forfar.’
During ‘Your Forfar’ a number of community groups in the town met to try and agree a future vision for Forfar and priorities for groups to take forward.
The following vision was agreed - “Forfar will be a strong community and a vibrant town that looks after its people, serves the surrounding area, and attracts visitors.” This is a positive and forward thinking view of the town, which those involved hope will gain support from the wider community.
In order to make this vision a reality, three priority areas for action were identified which include community development; marketing Forfar; and the town centre.
Groups felt that it would be useful to arrange three meetings, each focusing on one of these priority areas and suggested a number of groups and public agencies that should be involved.
Angus Council’s Local Community Planning Team has now organised these three meetings and can confirm the details.
There will be a Community Development Discussion on Tuesday, March 19 from 6.30 p.m. in St John’s Church Hall. This meeting will be chaired by councillor Lynne Devine and a senior officer from Angus Council’s Property Services will be there.
There will also be a Marketing Forfar Discussion which is set to take place on Tuesday, April 16 from 6.30 p.m., also in St John’s Church Hall. This meeting will be chaired by councillor Ian McLaren and a senior officer from Angus Council’s Economic Development Team will be there. In addition, a senior officer from Angus Council’s Cultural Services and an Area Manager from Visit Scotland, have also confirmed that they will go along.
A Town Centre Discussion will take place on Wednesday, April 24 from 6.30 p.m. in St John’s Church Hall. This meeting will also be chaired by a local elected member and a senior officer from Angus Council’s Planning Department will be there. In addition, a senior officer from Angus Council’s Parks Services; Angus Council’s Community Safety Team; Tayside Police; and Scotland’s Towns Partnership, which is a national organisation specialising in assisting communities to revitalise their town centres, have also agreed to be there.
The discussions will focus on how actions and priorities can be taken forward and what the Forfar community can do to make them a reality. In order for these discussions to be successful, there needs to be significant support and involvement from community organisations and other interested individuals. The Local Community Planning Team strongly encourages anyone with an interest to go along to the discussions.
